RUMI: The Poet Who Transforms Souls | From Sufi Mystic to the World’s Most Loved Poet

Who was Rumi, and how did a 13th‑century Islamic jurist become the most widely read poet in the modern world?
This immersive presentation traces the extraordinary transformation of Jalāl ad‑Dīn Rūmī—from refugee scholar and respected theologian to ecstatic poet, mystic, and spiritual revolutionary whose words still ignite hearts over 750 years later.

Born in 1207 in Balkh (modern‑day Afghanistan), Rumi’s early life was shaped by exile, loss, and intellectual brilliance. By his mid‑twenties, he was a renowned jurist teaching thousands of students in Konya—respected, accomplished, and inwardly restless.

Everything changed in November 1244, when Rumi met the wandering dervish Shams‑i Tabrizi. Their electrifying friendship shattered Rumi’s former life and awakened a fire that would pour out in poetry, music, dance, and divine longing. What followed was one of the most intense spiritual transformations in recorded history.

From the grief of Shams’ disappearance emerged the Divan‑i Shams‑i Tabrizi—over 40,000 ecstatic verses dictated in states of rapture, love, and surrender. Later came Rumi’s magnum opus, the Masnavi, a six‑volume spiritual epic often called the “Persian Quran”, weaving parables, Quranic wisdom, and mystical insight into a single, burning vision of divine love.

This presentation also explores:

The spiritual meaning of fana (the annihilation of the ego)
The birth of the whirling dervishes and the sacred Sema ceremony
Rumi’s death in 1273 and the founding of the Mevlevi Order
How Rumi became America’s best‑selling poet in the modern era
The ongoing tension between the “Western” and “Eastern” Rumi
Why his message transcends religion while remaining deeply rooted in Islam

More than biography, this is a meditation on how suffering becomes poetry, how love dissolves the self, and why Rumi’s fire still burns in a fractured world.

“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

If you’re drawn to spirituality, Sufism, mysticism, poetry, or the deeper questions of meaning and love—this journey is for you.
